The morning of Thursday June 23 at 5:30 AM we headed to the hospital to deliver our 2 new baby boys.
I was so excited! I was scared of what was to come after (being responsible for 2 new human beings) but not scared for the surgery that I was about to endure. The night before I asked my dad and step grandfather to give me a blessing in the morning. So they both arrived early to do just that. My sister even came early to see me before we delivered.

Next the anesthesiologist came in to discuss the procedure. I requested that my mom come in once Jesse left, but he would not allow it. Of course this made me cry, but after it was all said and done it was not that big of deal. I think I felt I needed her because I had no idea what to expect or how it would all play out.
Next they wheeled me into the operating room. As a preface to this, I really wanted the surgery video taped. I wanted to be able to see the birth of my babies. We asked our favorite delivery room nurse if she would video right when the babies came out and she did just that. After I laid down on the operating table and Dr. Noorda positioned the light above for the surgery, I noticed I could see everything as a reflecting in the light. I did not tell anyone because I really wanted to watch for myself, and I thought that they would reposition the light if they knew that I could see. So I actually was able to watch the entire surgery. It was very cool.
After the babies were each born the brought them over for us to see and then whisked them over the the baby teams to be checked out. They told Jesse that he could come over and watch, so it was bye-bye mommy! He was such a proud daddy and was so good to come back every few minutes, show me pictures and tell me what was going on.

After this the baby teams told me that they needed to take the boys to the NICU because they were both having some breathing problems. This was something we had already prepared ourselves for and somewhat expected because they were delivered at 37 weeks. We had been told it was pretty common for twins to go to the NICU right off the bat.

The pediatrician that we had decided to go with actually had the day off. However, he came in and because of the complications with the boys lungs he ended up staying for a large part of the day. We were impressed right away and were very happy with the decision that we had made.
Both of they boys had a pneumothorax (collapsed lungs) and that was what was causing their breathing problems. The doctor came and told us what his plan was to fix the problems and asked for our permission. Of course we agreed and off he went to perform the procedures. The plan was to intubate the boys and put a medicine into their lungs to get the to inflate and work properly. Not much later the doctor came back and said that they successfully intubated Dacen and got his meds going, and when they went to intubate Cash, he was started to heal on his own. Therefore, Cash did not have to be intubated. Dacen came off the ventilator after a short time and was doing much better. Dacens next struggle was jaundice. Overall, Cash spent 4 days in the NICU and Dacen spent 5 days in the NICU. Once Cash was released it was really hard to have Dacen still there. So I asked my friend Keldon to come and give him a blessing. Of course, Kel graciously agreed and brought his friend Dan to do to help.

Throughout my pregnancy I was having pretty bad pains which we attributed to indigestion. Since the boys were born the attacks were lasting longer and were much worse. When the boys were 2 weeks old, I was staying the night at my parents and I had an attack. Because of the severity and the length of the attack, I ended up in the emergency room. After about 5 hours they finally did an ultra sound to find out that I had gall stones. So we scheduled to have my gall bladder removed 3 weeks later.
On July 24th we had the babies blessings at my parents house. So many people came. It was so awesome to see how much support we have. The boys looked so handsome in their knit outfits and homemade booties (made by Great Grandma Mel's friend Ora). Papa (my dad) blessed Dacen Richard Hunsaker and Shawn (my brother in law) blessed Cash Leon Hunsaker.
Well I guess that sums it up. This should get me current to date, hopefully I can manage to find the time to update my blog more frequently. My goal is to keep everyone current on the growth of Cash & Dacen.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support and love toward our family. We are very lucky and our little guys are so lucky to have so much support and love in their lives!!

Trish..so fun to read about your amazing experience with those sweet little angels. It is sooo exhausting, but so much fun, huh? Best of luck with each and every day...it flies by!
